Why am I not able to register my LaCie EHD for warranty?

Hi to all,

I have purchased via Amazon a 2TB LaCie with FW800 connectivity after my earlier LaCie failed. Upon following the procedure of registering the product, I came across this hurdle of rejection for the stated reason that the serial number is invalid.

What are the implications of such a rejection of getting the product registered? Should I return this product because it will not be under guarantee?
