New email - apple id wont allow me to change

I have a brand new email address (has never been setup on apple id), but when i go to change my apple id to the new email, it says that email is already in use? Ive changed my sons email on his apple id with no problems...why does it do this??

If it has never been associated with an Apple ID, you shouldn't be getting that message. If you want to followup, you'll need to contact Apple ID Support.
