I run an imac with HighSierra installed. Until yesterday I never had any problems with my contacts app. But all of a sudden it started crashing. Now it won't even open. When I click to open it I just get a message that it unexpectantly closed. Well, thanks a lot for that! Any suggestions as to what I can do to restore the functionality? I kind of need this app for my daily work! Thank you!

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, that did not work. However, I think I might have located what the problem might be. When I tried to open it from the apps folder rather than the taskbar, I right-clicked on it to get info about the app and noticed that it can't seem to determine its size - under 'size', it just says 'calculating' but never comes to a result. However, I have no idea how this can be fixed.
Okay, temporarily turn off iCloud, then use your Time Machine backup to restore Contacts to a time when it worked okay and test. Then turn iCloud back on.
What troubleshooting have your attempted such as restarting the computer and doing a NVRAM reset, have you tried anything yet?
I have shut the computer down and restarted it, to no avail. What is a NVRAM ?. thanks.
I looked around for answers on the forums but did not find anything helpful.
I amusing my iPhone on the train so I cannot look up the link for you. Please use Google to search for Apple’s article on “How to reset the NVRAM or PRAM on your computer”. Then execute the reset!
It finally did manage to calculate its size, 10.4 MB on disk and 19.9MB total - too much, perhaps?
