Not Enough Volume on "Macintosh HD" to create freeze file(s)
The title of this post is the error message I receieve when attempting to record a new track to my podcast on Garageband. I'm using Garageband 3.0.4 and a Macbook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Any advice?
Thanks so much!

600MB is as good as zero with the size of today's files. You need to clear some things off that HD. Really, as a rule of thumb, you should have at least 10% of your hard drive free.
Obviously you have locked one or more tracks. When you do that, GB renders them to audio files, and that takes about 20 MB per track per minute.
If you unlock the track(s), the error msg should go away. But it seems you have very little space lefton your hard drive - and that's always a bad idea.
Thanks for the tip! How can I be running out of room on the hard drive? This is a fairly new computer, and the only thing I have on here is a few days worth of mp3s on itunes, some photos and word documents. And the regular things... Pages, and a demo copy of Finale. Any advice? How can I increase space, or add space?
Thanks, Jenny
Go into Finder and look at the bottom of any Finder window (open a new one if you have none open). At the bottom it will tell you how much free space is available. Post back with what it says you have.
(The only way to gain free space, if indeed that is the problem, is to delete files you're not using)
One other thing you might look into is getting an external FireWire Hard Drive on which to do your GB work. GB files can get very large (especially when you lock tracks [I have 2 projects that are over 7GB each... that's
GigaBytes]). Keeping them on the external drive can give you lots of breathing room.
