Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to add to this topic except for responding to the originator. The issue is NOT resolved by the new driver. The issue should be more accurately described as "Second display support was disabled by OSX 10.3.4". Specifically, DisplayLink now will only support mirroring of the laptop display, and not extending the display to multiple monitors. This is a feature many of us have grown to depend on.
Does Apple have any plans on permitting this to occur on non-Thunderbolt displays?
Thanks.
Rick
Apple has no real input in the matter at this point. Apple changed macOS in some way that disabled a third party driver. But they never really supported the driver or had anything to with it. The developers of that third party driver created and made sure it worked with previous versions. Apple was not involved in that development in any way. As such they had no way of knowing that changing whatever they changed would affect the driver.
As such its entirely up to the developers to make it work again as they are the ones that know how their driver works. At the very least Display Link needs to see if they can work with Apple and see how it can be resolved.
This is not something Apple can unilaterally solve by themselves. Nor would they really have any vested interest in doing so on their own, if they have no relation with the software or its makers.
Yes. Displaylink is aware of this and working on a solution:
