iCloud Messages across multiple iOS and MacOS devices with varying Message "history"

If a user has multiple iOS and MacOS devices attached to the same iCloud account, and not each device has all the same Message history (length of time, some threads deleted on some devices but not others, etc.) will iCloud Messages "sync" the all the content so that no messages are lost and all devices have all the message history?

iOS 11.4, null

Greetings, atenbusch.

I see you're wondering how Messages in iCloud works and I'm happy to help.

Keep all your messages in iCloud

Here's how it works

Messages in iCloud are updated automatically, so you always have the same view everywhere you use iMessage. When you delete a message, photo, or conversation on one device, it’s removed from all of your devices. And since all of your attachments are stored in iCloud, you can save space on your device.

You can use Messages in iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Take care!

So are you confirming that you also have multiple devices that had different histories and now with the new iCloud sync feature they are all exactly the same? I have 3 devices and they still have 3 different histories with the new feature turned on on all of them. If I read or delete something, it gets updated everywhere. All of the messages prior to the upgrade though are still there. I wish there was a device you could define as that master. It seems iCloud.com doesn't even have a way to view Messages.

Just wondering if you're seeing something different and your devices are syncing to look exactly the same, given the above scenario and the original question.

Thanks.

I have a problem. I have two devices and the histories are not the same.

One is an iPhone with almost all of my messages

The other is an iPad with only some messages, including some that are not on my iPhone.

Initially all of my messages were backed up to iCloud on the iPhone and I presume the iPad, as iCloud storage size increased by a bit over the messages size on my iPhone.

Then overnight some of my messages synced from my iPhone to the iPad.

However, there are a lot of gaps in messages on the iPad that have remained unfilled over the past few days.

New messages on my iPhone are turning up on my iPad, but no more older messages.

I am leaving my iPad plugged in and connected to wireless overnight but it hasn't helped.
