iOS 11.4 battery drain

My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all. I used to go a full day without charging it now it may last half a day. I am just wondering if something got turned on with this new update that I have to turn off to save battery life. It is just weird I have not done anything other than update the iOS and now this happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue.

When I look at my battery performance, it shows that the personal hotspot on my phone is being used, though I have never turned it on. I have to keep charging my iPhone every 2-3 hours now.

It's seems to be the way they operate in that you never see admission of problems, certainly not in these communities. I expect we will see a fix, maybe the fix is in beta test. Even though this community is not Apple support I do know they are watching because I have been contacted by telephone by them after I contributed to a different problem in this community. For now it's lower power mode and wifi off until the next iOS release which I hope will provide a fix.

I had my 3rd chat with Apple Support and they want me to have the phone inspected especially because restore phone did not work. I will arrange an appointment, I'm curious about what will happen as I've never had a problem like this before. The answer to my question about "isn't there a problem with the update?" was "Based on my experience and the customer’s I have dealt with, there shouldn’t be any issues with battery caused by 11.4" plus "need to inspect it further because the troubleshoot steps only provided temporary assistance, and there are different solutions for everyone as well".

I have my phone with factory setting now and the battery drain seems to be less.

However it isn't much better than a flip phone without my data.

Welcome back to the 1990s.

I will refresh my data from back up tomorrow to see if it is any better.

I wouldn't be surprised that the tech support people are not aware of the issue as Apple seems to be a very secret company.

How do I downgrade? This 11.4 release is horrible on my 6s. Makes my phone worthless since the battery is draining so fast. The last time Apple did this on the 4s people were forced to upgrade HW and the cost for change is too high and not feasible for a family. I’m not doing this again. This is terribly poor customer service Apple!!! It impacts not only customer satisfaction but also customer loyalty.

Can someone tell me how to downgrade?

I feel your pain. Unfortunately, it is now impossible to switch back to the previous IOS. The way it was explained to me by Apple Support was that "Apple has created a system where we want our customers moving forward and not going a step back." No matter that IOS 11.4 was a huge step backwards for many of us with iPhone 6's that were working perfectly prior to the upgrade. Call support and lodge a complaint. If they hear from enough of us, perhaps they will release a fix sooner than this fall, which is when I was told they would update.

I have opened a ticket with Apple as suggested on your email below and no news from Apple until today.

People are completely frustrated of course because Apple just a new IOS and it is us who are getting prejudiced. I am personally very disappointed with Apple, without mentioning that I’ve already spend a fortune (I presume like many other people) with batteries, screens etc - all this because I was thinking it was my phone! Let’s be honest, since the release of the IOS 11.4, Apple has not taken any responsibilities ..

I have an iPhone 6s and after the update to 11.4 my battery life is horrible. I’ve noticed it is when on Wifi. This is ridiculous that a company like Apple cannot iron out these bugs prior to a new update being released to the public. This and the whole battery throttling debacle really makes me want to switch to another branphone.

I decided to give restore phone "as new" from iTunes one more go with no restore from a backup until the new phone proves itself.

I only re-installed 1 app - gmail. The battery dropped to 96% after a day at work. Wifi was enabled but I couldn't connect to wifi due to a work issue. This is encouraging, hoping this lasts and hopefully I can connect to work wifi tomorrow for a better test. At home the wifi is up and the battery has only dropped to 95% after a couple of hours.

Hello Community,

I may have some good news.

I began to routinely call 800-MY-APPLE and one day Lisa answered. She explained that she normally does not take phone calls but did today just to help out the team. Lisa said she was a supervisor. She was unaware of iOS 11.4 causing battery drain until I was able to lightly nudge her to take a deeper look. She confirmed that engineering may indeed be aware of this problem. She kindly opened a case (as a supervisor) and after the weekend, she followed up with me after she had follow-up from engineering. She collected the information from my iPhone as engineering requested. I have another session scheduled with her for July 4, 2:00 PM EDT to collect more info (logs) from my iPhone after it has rapidly discharged and I can connect it to iTunes.

Hopefully, this will be behind us soon!

So I backed up my iPhone 6S and reset it to factory settings. Today I went to restore via iTunes and it won't accept the password. I only use a few passwords and have tried them all. After a trip to Verizon, the local Apple outlet, and a call to Apple Support, it looks like I have lost all my contacts, pictures, passwords, apps, etc.

After he checked offline he said that Apple sent out an email about the 11.4. It sounded to me like Apple is trying to figure it out and they will ask to backup, reset to factory and then restore. If the problem persists then you will need to take it to an Apple store so they can analyze the "Battery" problem.

So after numerously entering my sign on and password I now get to manually enter in data.

Come on Apple! How can you guys not be aware of this battery drain issue? Sounds like another scam to me to get people to buy new batteries or phones. My phone was working perfectly until I installed iOS 11.4. There are countless numbers of people having this problem and you claim that you didn’t know about it. Please release a fix now!

Just got off the phone with Apple Support. They were no help at all and said iPhone 6 Plus is an old phone and incompatible with new software update. He suggested I check my battery health, location settings, wifi etc. I had checked prior to calling and all were good. Apple is trying to place burden on the users, and not accept responsibility for bad update. Apple has no plans to fix the issue. He suggested I buy a new battery! What a scam - there was nothing wrong with my phone until I installed iOS 11.4! And a two year old iPhone is considered old - seriously? Curious logic, considering my husband installed 11.4 on his iPhone 5s and it works fine. Wake up Apple!

My battery started to drain quicker as soon as I connected to my work WiFi the first time after a restore phone to new. This continued even when I connected to my home WiFi even though this wasn’t happening at home the previous day. Overnight my phone went from 100 to 41. Is it changing WiFi connections that is my problem?

I reset network settings before leaving for work so my phone wasn’t changing from home to work and after 4 hours in work my battery has just dropped to 100%.
