iOS 11.4: iPhone Music App Beeps Between Songs?

Since upgrading to iOS 11.4 yesterday, there is one beep between each song and two if I skip a song in iPhone Music App (not Apple Music). The beeps were definitely not there before the upgrade.

Anyone know why or how to turn them off??

I had this issue with my Bluetooth in the car. It ended out being a warning that my volume on the phone was up all the way.

Turned the volume down a bit on the phone and the beep (between songs) went away immediately.

Hey. I found a solution on reddit that seems to work for me. You have to turn up the volume from your bluetooth device all the way up. Then you can bring it down to the level you need. Thereafter, use only the volume controls on your bluetooth device in order to adjust volume.

You can check if this works by pressing next song on the Apple Music Player. In my case, it did not ring. Hope this helps you guys 🙂

Cheers and thanks Reddit guy, if you're reading this.

UPDATE to the max volume "fix" (which initially didn't appear to do anything for me)

The cause of the beeping appears to be the use of the volume controls ONE THE IPHONE.

While not an actual permanent fix, I found what I will call a work-around that stops the beeping (at least for me, YMMV). I had started telling the story of how I came to this, but it is far longer than anyone is probably interested so I'll spare you the details. Here's what I found:

While playing music with BT headphones connected:

1) turn the volume up to maximum

2) using the volume control ON THE HEADPHONES adjust the volume back down as needed

3) beeping between songs should be GONE

4) don't use volume controls on the phone

Changing the volume by using the slider in the app or physical buttons on the side of the phone will cause the beeping to return. To stop the beeping again you need to set the volume to max again using either the phone or headphones, but from then on ONLY use the headphones to control the volume.

This is hardly a permanent fix. If you're like me, at times you may still like using the music app or buttons on your phone to change the volume because it is harder to find the controls on your headphones. In any event, I'll be curious to hear if this works for anyone else.

I found something else to try that’s working for me so far. (Sennheiser HD 4.50 Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones). Thought to try as the issue seems related to volume control.

I’ve updated to iOS 12.0.1

In Settings > Music > Playback section

Turn off Soundcheck

This solved the beep between songs for me. It did come back at one point but I turned Soundcheck on and off again, closed and reopened music and turned my headphones off/on and whatever the mixture was it’s now gone again. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Maybe others will benefit from trying Soundcheck off.

So I found a solution to this problem:

The beep sound heard between songs is an issue of the volume between two devices being out of sync. For example, having the volume on your headphone turned to max, and your volume on the iPhone turned to lowest possible volume.

To solve the issue simply adjust the volume of both your headphones connected via blue tooth down, and your volume of your iPhone up so that they are near the middle level, then you can adjust the volume with either device to get the desired volume for your listening pleasure.

The beep indicates the iPhone is trying to adjust the volume level between songs, and is set too low. This is why raising the volume on the iPhone fixes the problem, but you also need to adjust the volume on your headphones lower. Or you are going to blast out your ear drums!

Just one question!

I adjusted the volume of all of my songs in itunes:

I right clicked on the song name and selected “Get Info”

I Clicked on the ‘Options’ tab and moved the Volume Adjustment slider and increased a songs volume by sliding all the way to the right (20% for example)

I did that with all my songs!

Now there is that beeping sound between two songs.

Right now I adjusted the song volume of all my tunes back to normal (to 0%)

And the beeping is gone!

Can anybody verify that behavior?

If you have that beeping problem between the songs: have you adjusted the volume of your songs?

Maybe that’s the reason:

After each song the iPhone adjusts the volume of the next song (let’s say to 120%) and the beep indicates the volume adjustment.

I would like to hear your opinion!

*** UPDATE ***

I spoke to Apple Support this morning with the following results:

* They have had a handful of cases with this exact same issue, across different bluetooth devices.

* They first recommended I back-up, wipe and restore my iPhone 6. I lied and said I already did that. (I will NEVER do that-its code for "we dont know how to solve your problem.")

* Then they said across the handful of issues, it boiled down to working with the manufacturer of the affected device (some simply die and refunds are issued).

I will work with manufacturer (GTA Carkits) to get a replacement and follow-up with Apple after that. I will recommend Apple publish a list of affected devices and manufacturer contact info.

Actually, after some testing, I don't think it is entirely about how the volume is controlled.

Here's a list of my devices and how they behave (and this is true on iOS 11.4 thru 12.0.0)

BEEP BETWEEN SONGS

Soundpeats Q800 headphones (BT 4.0)

- beep with volume change, whether changed on phone or on headphones

- volume on phone linked to volume on headphones

Taotronics BT headphones (TT-BH07) (BT 4.1)

- beep with volume change, whether changed on phone or on headphones

- volume on phone linked to volume on headphones

DOES NOT BEEP BETWEEN SONGS

Plantroics Explorer 50 BT Headset (BT 3.0)

- beep with volume change

- volume independent from phone. Volume change on phone makes no beep.

ANKER Soundcore Mini (BT 4.0) and Soundcore 2 (BT 4.2) - both behave same way

- NO beep with volume change

- volume linked to phone volume

2014 BMW

- NO beep with volume change

- volume independent from phone. normally have phone volume at max and control volume with car.

Based on that the problem appears to be independent of BT version but related to whether your headphones are tied to your phone's volume and beep at you to indicate volume changes. It is as though the headphones are detecting a volume change when the songs change.

*** Small Update ***

Bluetooth product vendor (GTA Carkits) tech is working with Apple on this. Apparently Apple IS aware that its an 11.4 upgrade related issue and is working to have it repaired in the 12.0 release. Also, some gobbldygook about Bluetooth 4. (didnt understand that part)

More later after replacement received and installed. I dont expect any improvement.

Noticed another thing about how this issue behaves on different bluetooth speakers/connections. I have tested this now in my car, my Yamaha receiver, 2 Anker Soundcore speakers, and 2 sets of bluetooth earbud headphones. The only place I get the beeps is in my headphones - no beeps on any of the other devices. The extra thing I noticed about this is that it is only my headphones that also provide that same audible beep when I change the volume, either on the phone or via the headphones. Therefore there must be something about the version of bluetooth and the device where if it provides that audible alert for volume changes, as of ios 11.4 it also started beeping between songs.

I too am experiencing this issue with any bluetooth connected output. I have a pair of bluetooth headphones (M-Pow 5), GTA car kit in my SUV, Volkswagen bluetooth receiver in my wife's car... all exhibit the "beep" before any track plays. When I airplay to my apple TV (which goes over the wi-fi), no beep. I'm pretty sure it's a bluetooth issue.

Was working fine in 11.3. Started in 11.4. I just upgraded to 11.4.1 and the problem is still there. Tried every thing I could think of; turning system haptics on/off, turning volume limiter on/off, playing with various notification settings, etc. No joy.

Really hope I don't have to wait until 12 is released to fix this... I may just upgrade to the beta of 12 in hopes it's already fixed there and they just didn't backport the fix.
