iOS 11.4 WiFi Problems

iOS 11.4 on iPhone 6 and iPad Pro. WiFi drops on iPad and then does not reconnect until numerous attempts, turning WiFi on/off, connecting to different network, or powering iPad on/off. Phone has no problem nor do my many Windows computers nor do my SmartTVs. It’s not my router or signal strength. Is this an iPad Pro chipset problem? Also, I have WiFi Networking turned off under Privacy setting for both phone and iPad

Go to settings and open your wifi. Select your wifi by touching the wifi name. Click on Forget This Network. Touch Forget this Network (in red to confirm). Then open up WIFI to rediscover your network and re-enter your password for your network.

This fixed my WIFI issues on iphone 6 plus and iphone 8 running ios 11.4 so far.😉

I have an iPad Pro 10.5” running iOS 11.4 and an iPad Pro 9.7” running iOS 11.2.5. I also have an Apple TV 4 (not 4K) and a MacBook Pro Air from 2012 or 2013. Guess what? My iPad Pro 10.5” running iOS 11.4 is the only Apple product in our house that has this problem. My iPad Pro 9.7” has not been backed up in 17 weeks! I have not yet upgraded it to iOS 11.4 and it works like a charm!

Just before I started to have the problems I have with 11.4 and Safari (which began not long after I upgraded to iOS 11.4), I was going to trade in my iPad Pro 9.7” because, with my new iPad Pro 10.5”, I no longer needed it.

Boy, was I glad I didn’t!

Since upgrading my iPad Pro 10.5” to iOS 11, Safari hangs at the “white screen” it displays when the App boots up. It stays like this for a few seconds, hanging. Then - without warning - goes back to the home screen, without ever having loaded Safari! I have contacted Support regarding this problem 5-6 times! Unbelievable...I have taken it to two different local Apple stores, as well. After each “fix”, the problem eventually *returns*. I have been told to “reset my router”, I have been walked through [with Apple Care taking over control of my screen] a reset to factory settings and then restored from iCloud and then synced with my MacBook, etc. One of the times I took the 10.5” iPad Pro to the Apple Store, I even had it set up as a “new machine.” Which, in itself caused even more headaches - because, I *still* managed to lose a lot of my passwords. I even called our cable company, which supplies our internet. Coincidentally, after checking the line, the cable guy found that squirrels had been gnawing on it! This is a problem we have had before but it still didn’t explain why none of my other Apple products were having problems with accessing Safari/Internet - *only* my iPad Pro 10.5”.

When I was at each of the two Apple Stores I visited, my iPad was able to connect to the store‘s Wi-Fi with Safari. Two things I did, just by dumb luck which seemed to be a temporary solution to the problem, were turning the 10.5” machine off for several hours one day. I believe, it was off for at *least* two or three hours. Another ”fix” that worked for a while, happened completely by accident: I asked Siri to look something up, and touched one of the links to search results that appeared on the screen. I don’t understand it, either. But, it worked for awhile...

Going to “Settings“ and changing to my cable internet’s unsecured basic “guest” network was a quick fix - but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

Both Apple stores ran a diagnostic program on it, and determined that the problem wasn’t the machine. It was the software. One of the times I called Apple Care, I was told that the problem was caused by saving bookmarks in other Apps (like Twitter and News) to Safari. I was told that the Safari was hanging and failing to start because I had over 12,000 bookmarks. I know, I am an idiot. Even so, Isn‘t the ability to do such a thing one of the *features* of iOS 11.4 anyway?? If so, how am *I* responsible? When I asked whether deleting all of my bookmarks might help, I was told that it wouldn’t. Apple Care said I might have a corrupt file somewhere on my MacBook, so I should never restore from a backup on the computer only from iCloud.

In the end, Apple Care advised me to *never* save bookmarks from other Apps to Safari. Whaaaa-??? This reminds me of that old joke about a guy who tells his doctor it hurts when he moves his elbow. His doctor says, “Don’t do that.”

*That‘s* the solution Apple Care came up with??

My solution is to use a browser other than Safari. When I told this to the Apple Care person who helped me when they called a couple of days later, they sounded disappointed. So am I - in Apple.

Mostly, I have been venting here. Considering that I have been an Apple user since 2007, I have *never* had the kind of problems I have had with my iPad Pro 10.5” with any other Apple products. In the last 3 or 4 months, I have called Apple Care more times for this 11.4 iOS Safari problem on my new iPad Pro, than I have called them during the entire lifetime of other Apple products that I own.

I loved Apple because their products had been worry free for me. They were more reliable, without a lot of headache, so that’s what made them worth the extra expense.

Step up your game, Apple.

It it breaks my heart to say this, Apple, but unless there are some top secret plans to clone Steve Jobs - I’ve bought my last Apple product.

I‘ve had the same issue.

I’ve possibly solved it by disabling the 5 ghz radio on my Wi-Fi extender.

I noticed my Wi-Fi was crap when the backhaul light on extender (Netgear X6S EX8000) indicated it was using the 5 ghz frequency For backhaul. A day ago my Wi-Fi on iPhone 8+ & iPad Pro 9.7 started acting correctly when the extender indicator lights said it was using the 2.4 ghz frequency for backhaul. At some point the extender decided to switch back to the 5 ghz band and when it did, my iOS devices’ Wi-Fi cratered again.

In a random “why not“ moment I disabled the 5 ghz radio to test if it made any difference and things have worked like a charm since. Time will tell if it’s a permanent fix.

I’m far from being a techie and the explanation for this is beyond my pay grade and understanding.

I’ll leave that to the tech savvy and Apple software engineers.

Still needs an iOS fix so the latest extender technology can be utilized to maximum capability.

I’ve found 11.4.1 to be fine.... but here’s something else. The issue could very well be router . I suggest accessing router and turning off 5ghz. In general, 5 is only needed for gaming. Try it. It’s been reported that it solves the problem for some.

I’ve purchased a new router, dual band, but without automatic switching between 2,4/5 and am MUCH happier with it in general anyway. I’ve set my televisions to 5 and all apple products to 2.4. Oddly, Windows products don’t seem to have an issue.

I Found that the problem is in the IOS software version 11.4.1.

Wen it goes to sleep. In a new wireless standard the device can
tell who long it like to sleep. This is a way to save power on device
phone or tablet.

I the new software the sleep parts is buggy.

Jul 30 12:58:52.321 *Dot1x_NW_MsgTask_2 Client will be required to Reauthenticate in 0 seconds

It shout not bee 0 seconds ?????

Jul 30 13:00:00.750 *apfMsConnTask_0 Client is trying to associate with RSSI = -321 dBm

The RSSI it NOT -321 dBm ;-) We never get under -100 dBm.

I may be that the RSSI number is the Reauthenticate time in sec. ?

The iPhone I see get on the network after 5 min and that is 300sec. after sleep.

The phone thinks that the Wireless network know the crypted session 300 sec.
But the wireless network forget the phone i 0 sec.

The phone works on the network and can roam to an other AP fine.

I have use the command "debug client <MAC>" on a Cisco Wireless lan Controller.

An I have at Wireshark packet capture and wireless colour on it.

Reboot is not an option.

The wireless controller have 3000 Access Point and 10.000 client an 200 iPhone on software 11.4.1
Every time the iPhone goes to sleep we shot reboot. I THINK NOT!

Users whit IOS 11.4.1 Use 4G mobil network and wait for the next update.

My iPhone 7 Plus just got replaced, had 11.4 on the old one without any issues concerning WiFi so far. Just returned home with the new one with 11.4.1 installed - WiFi drops all day as described by many.

This is really annoying as I can’t even use home automation any more :/

My wife’s iPhone X on 11.2.6 is working fine.

Thought about installing 12 beta 8/9, can anyone confirm that this is fixed in 12?

Despite the growing mounting protest of disappointed people, Apple so far keep disregarding the fact that IOS 11.4 has a problem, they say that the problem lays with our hardware either the wifi antenna or wifi chipset in the mother board, they will only understand reasons should unhappy people file a CLASS ACTION against them .....

Apple disregrding the fact that IOS 11.4 is creating wifi problem, insist that we should throw away our obsolete I-Phones and i-Pad and buy their new hardware ...

I have asked them to enable downgrade of IOS 11.4 back to earlier release and/or give us temporary hardware to substitue ours that HAVE NO HARDWARE PROBLEMS, but it is just a bug in their new IOS 11.4

My demand has been turned down without any solid reply ...
