Power-on requires power key + 5 key

I have an older macbook-pro. The power key by itself doesn't work. But if I hold the power key and the 5 key it powers up. Kinda weird. Keyboard is orherwise fine. Has anybody seen anything like this?

Hello Nougiecat,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that your MacBook Pro does not power on using only the power button. You've come to the right place for help.

Resetting the SMC and NVRAM on your MacBook Pro could help when the keyboard is not behaving as expected. Here's how to reset your SMC:

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Reset your NVRAM following the steps here:

You may also want to consider running Apple Diagnostics to determine if there are any hardware issues with your keyboard detected:

If your Mac was introduced before June 2013, use Apple Hardware Test instead:

Let us know what happens from here.

Cheers!
