Notes handwriting recognition

I noticed bit of a thread in late 2017 for handwriting recognition on Notes. Seemed to fizzle out. Any development since?

I'm using my iPad Pro with Pencil. Several apps manage recognition very well (NotesPlus, Noteability) but apps add an extra level of complexity to what could remain a simple Apple world. I'm thinking of Notes with a simple time stamp linked to Calendar and ToDo. Any suggestions?
