My phone tends to open and not give me a notification for iMessages. It tends to seem like i’m blowing people off when in reality, something had occurred where my phone opened the message for me and didn’t give me a notification. Any fixes?
Go to Settings>Notifications>Messages and make sure you have the notifications set to "Persistent". I suspect you have them set to "Temporary" and they disappear off your phone as you open it.
If you want to see the notifications on your lock screen, tap the power button to wake the phone up rather than putting your finger on the Home button.
I open my phone with my fingerprint and have an iPhone 8. I can look at my notifications and see no text messages and then open the iMessage app and see that there’s a text without the blue dot which indicates I opened the message I hadn’t seen yet.
Can you give a few more details? How are you opening the phone?
You can avoid issues with people thinking you're ignoring them by going to Settings>Messages>Read Receipts and turning them off.
