Need help with a Sony DCR-TRV20 DV Handycam and iMovie HD6

Hello folks:

I'm quite new at this whole Mac thing, as i've been using a PC and Windows since it was known as 3.1.

I've have been having touble getting iMovie to recognize the handycam. I've gone through all the documentation provided by both apple and sony regarding the use of firewire and the camera. To my knowlege, the Mac should find it without a problem.

I'm wondering a few things:
1. Is there a way to manually search for the camcorder
2. Is the camera too old to be recognized by the computer
3. What other options are there for importing the footage off the miniDV's?
