Messages read receipts not syncing with iOS

Since yesterday my iPhone X is not picking up on read receipts from messages opened on the OSX app. The notification for new messages is staying on my phone until I open the thread and then it seems to sync and clears them. I haven't changed any settings on either device but I do update them regularly to the latest OS versions.

Hardware

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Touchbar, 2016)

2.6 GHz Intel Core i7

OS: 10.13.4 (17E202)

iPhone X (256gb)

OS: 11.4

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS Sierra (10.12.5)

Hey jbuckland,

It seems like you are having an issue with the read receipts for messages threads that were opened on the macOS Messages app. You have to open the message thread on your iPhone and then the notification goes away. I can understand wanting to get this to work as expected. I'll be happy to provide some steps that may help in this situation.

What I'd like to have you do is to turn continuity off and then restart both devices and then turn continuity back on and then test it out to see if that has resolved the issue.
