Messages not syncing "read" status across devices

This issue has been frustrating me for maybe a month or more now. I am *getting* all my messages between my iPhone, iPad, AppleWatch, Mac Pro, etc... but if I READ a message on one device, it still shows as UNREAD on the other devices and I have to go to each device and "view" the message to clear the blue-dot that indicates an unread message. I've tried all the typical stuff; reboot devices, turn certain settings off, then back-on again, etc. It still persists. Any suggestions...?

*SIGH* - It seems I almost always inevitably figure-out how to solve a problem AFTER I ask a question online.

I have no idea HOW it got turned-off... but on my Mac, in the Messages app under Preferences > iMessage ... the checkbox "Enable Messages in iCloud" was UNchecked for some reason (not me). Checking it fixed it for my Mac. Will inspect other devices.
