format sd card as fat 32

I'm trying to format a micro sd card as FAT 32 but every time I try it formats it as FAT 16. This is for a 3d printer that only reads FAT 32. I tried the FAT 16 but the printer did not read the sd card.

Unlike in Windows, you can’t manually choose FAT16 or 32. The OS decides which to use depending on the size of the drive. The smaller it is, the more likely it will format as FAT16.

If you have Windows installed on a Boot Camp partition, or in a VM, you’ll be able to format it as FAT32. Otherwise, you’ll have to find a friend or someone with a Windows computer who can format it for you.
