I understand from your post that you have not been able to update to the latest version of iOS for your iPhone. I see that you are coming from Apple's article, HT202639: Connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, so I assume you are trying to update your iPhone over Wi-Fi.

Hi

What iPad do you have some older ipads cannot be updated ipad 2/3/4 cannot run ios 11

They can only be updated to ios 10.3.3

Ps update to a newer Ipad when you can look on apple website for reconditioned ipads they have a 12 month warranty.
