Apple TV is a HomeKit device?

Recently with the latest update the Apple TV appeared in homekit as a device. What kind of things can I ask Siri to have Apple TV do? I tried asking her to play or pause the show I was watching but it didn’t work. Can’t find any information online.

So let me ask.. do you have an Apple TV and HomeKit products?

Just yesterday the Apple TV appeared as an accessory in the Home application. I know about the TV Remote app, but this is different.

See you can see that in Home App, it shows that my TV is playing, and touching it will pause the TV. However voice commands don’t seem to work.

I’m looking for someone who understands the update where Apple TV became an accessory in addition to being a hub.User uploaded file

I don’t think you’re getting my question. I have a lot of home kit accessories but only now has the Apple TV hub shown as a device on its own.

So I’m wondering like with other HomeKit accessories, if I can have Siri on my phone control the TV.

Your question isn't detailed enough.

Take note that Siri on the AppleTV remote, and Siri on the iPhone or Apple Watch each have different capabilities even in the same HomeKit home. Here are some examples, where Apple TV is my HomeKit hub:

Works:

1. On my iPhone or Apple Watch: "Hey Siri, Play 'Band of Horses essentials in the Living Room'". Plays Apple Music playlist in the next room on the surround sound system connected to Apple TV.

2. On my Apple TV remote: "Hey Siri, Play 'Band of Horses essentials". Do

3. On my iPhone or Apple Watch: "Hey Siri, unlock my door"

Not Allowed:

1. On my Apple TV remote: "Hey Siri, Play 'Band of Horses essentials on my iPhone". iPhone is not a HomeKit destination, maybe?

2. On my Apple TV remote: "Hey Siri, unlock my door". Likely not allowed because there isn't enough security?

Once AppleTV updated it appeared in the Home app on my phone as a connected device.
So my question is what sort of commands I can do from Siri on my phone to control the Apple TV.
I have gotten "Hey Siri pause AppleTV" & "Hey Siri Play AppleTV" to occasionally work. The outcome of those commands will be to pause or resume the show we were watching.

However I was testing and if you rename the AppleTV to for example just "TV" the command "Hey Siri Pause TV" doesn't work.

Does this make a bit more sense? In what ways can I control the Apple TV, using just Siri commands coming from my Phone.

Q: In what ways can I control the Apple TV, using just Siri commands coming from my Phone.

A: The short answer is above. Your AppleTV is a destination for video, pictures, and music on your HomeKit network.

1. On my iPhone or Apple Watch: "Hey Siri, Play 'Band of Horses essentials in the Living Room'". Plays Apple Music playlist in the next room on the surround sound system connected to Apple TV.

Hint: It tends to be a bad idea (for many reasons) to give your HomeKit devices less descriptive names; like naming your speaker, speaker or your phone, phone. What happens when everyone starts naming their dog, dog?
