need 4k image capture with old iMac

Hi all,

I am editing my first 4k video. Previous, to make animated maps, I open apple maps, do a capture of the area I need with a mini app called Jing choosing a constrained rectangle at 1080 and then import into Motion.

Now if I do the same thing in a 4k video project the map is of course very blurry. But my Mac does not have a 4 or 5k screen so I cannot up the resolution of the image capture.

Is there any way to get a 4K map image on an old 27 inch iMac?

Cheers

You're kind of in a hard place...

You will need to capture 4 or more (near) screen size captures around your point of focus on the map (with a little bit of overlap). You can use a photo stitcher (there are a few free ones available like Hugin) to put them all together into a single image. If you have Motion, you could create a 4k project and simply arrange each group of photos to fill the frame. You can probably use about 10 to 20% upscaling and still retain decent clarity if needed to fill the full frame. You can export "Current Frames" from Motion just like you can from FCPX. [You can do the same thing in FCPX — it will just be a little more tedious, but arranging the screen caps and creating compound clips to "merge them" would also be doable.]
