Enter key does not work when pairing

I am trying to pair my mac wireless keyboard. Bluetooth found my keyboard and give me numbers to type. I am able to type the number on my wireless keyboard, but when type "Enter" key, it does not seem to recognize my enter key. I am pairing my wireless key board to MacBook Air laptop. I don't know how to find out my keyboard model. Please help.

MacBook Air, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4), version OS: High Sierra V 10.13.4

Hello, thidamam.

It's my understanding that your wireless keyboard enter button isn't working when paired to your MacBook Air. I have some suggestions that may help. The best and easiest way to test if the keyboard has an issue or not is by trying it with another device. This should help you determine if that enter key is the issue. This article is used for Apple wireless keyboards but it has some great steps to take for issues with wireless keyboards: If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working as expected

Your keyboard has one or more keys that don't respond

Use the Keyboard Viewer to test whether the keyboard keys are responding correctly when they are pressed.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then select Language & Region.
  2. Click the Keyboard Preferences button.
  3. Click on the Input Sources tab.
  4. Make sure that the keyboard language that you use is listed on the left side. If it's not, click User uploaded file and choose from the languages that appear.
  5. Select the checkbox next to Show Input menu in menu bar.
  6. Click on the Keyboard tab, then select the checkbox next to Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar.
  7. Choose Show Keyboard Viewer from the Input menu User uploaded file in the menu bar. The Keyboard Viewer showing the keyboard layout appears on your display.
  8. Type the key on the keyboard that doesn’t respond and see if the corresponding key highlights on the Keyboard Viewer. If it does, that key is functioning correctly.

If you enable the Mouse Keys feature, many keys might not respond as you expect. Here's how to turn off Mouse Keys:

  • In OS X 10.8 or later, choose Apple menu > System Preferences. Click on Accessibility, then choose Mouse & Trackpad from the list on the left side. Then deselect the Enable Mouse Keys checkbox.
  • In OS X 10.7.5 or earlier, choose Apple menu > System Preferences. Click on Universal Access, then select the Mouse & Trackpad tab. Then select the Off button next to Mouse Keys.

If issues with keys persist, try starting up your Mac in single-user mode to see whether a software issue is causing the problem.

To answer your second question. This depends on the manufacturer, I'd reach out to them or visit their website to help you identify the model of your keyboard.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello, thidamam.

Our next steps should help narrow down the issue if the issue isn't related to a hardware problem with the keyboard. Have you tried the keyboard with another computer? If so, does the enter key work?

Let's try a test user account and safe mode to see if the key functions:
