Depends on what you mean by a "hard reset". If it's locked up and you're forcing it to shut down by holding down the power and home buttons, then no.
If you mean using Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings. I think it's pretty obvious by the verbiage that it will wipe all the settings. It's basically starting over from scratch like it's right out of the box.

Resetting your device will not delete any data:
On an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

Thank you, Gail. I did that to both iPhone 8+ phones with IOS 11.4. We have been unable to airdrop between the 2 phones since updating to 11.4. Both phones have Bluetooth on, are connected to WiFi and hotspot is turned off on both. I didn’t want to change airdrop settings from “contacts only” to “everyone”. We are in each other’s list of contacts. Do you have anymore expert suggestions?
Thanks again! 8- )
OK, so now some obvious, but "just to make sure" things:
1. Check to make sure that Airdrop is turned on in your Control Center
2. Toggle Bluetooth off and then back on on both phones
3. Toggle Wifi off and back on on both devices
4. Turn your modem off and back on
If you've already done those, then the next step is a bit more disruptive, but has worked for some posters:
- Sign out of iCloud and then back in again. Do this on any device or Mac that you are using Airdrop with (when you turn it back on, you will need to check your iCloud Settings to make sure they are still set the way you want)
- Before signing back in perform the Reset as you have already done, then sign back into iCloud - check Airdrop, Bluetooth, and Wifi Settings once you are signed back in

Hey, maybe you can help. No matter how many times I try, my phone doesn't hard reset. I follow the instructions of pressing the volume buttons and the power button - even watched youtube videos on this - but it just gives me the basic power down screen with a slider. I'm running the latest iOS 11.4 on an iPhone 8. Any ideas?
You need to keep holding the side button down until the Apple appears. Don't stop holding it when the Slide to Power Off banner displays. Be sure you are pressing and quickly releasing the volume buttons, and make sure you are doing them in the right order:
On an iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

That isn't a reset, that is an Erase All Content and Settings. That is not referred to here as a "hard reset". The instructions I provided is what that term refers to on this forum.

How about starting your own thread instead of trying to hijack someone else's...
Sorry, I didn't know you were the great poobah of threads, but I'll certainly do that. Thanks, for being helpful.
