limit to number of songs i can put on cds

am trying to burn some of my playlists to CD--however am finding the number of songs I can burn is somewhat limited.

I have 700 mb cd which say they can hold 80 min. when I try to burn a CD w/ 1.4 hrs and 133mb--it says there are too many songs (it is about 25 or less songs)--i just want to burn 30 songs per CD

anyway I am wondering if it is the format of the songs--when I look at individual songs--file:info:summary it says they are MPEG 1, layer 3--is that the same as mp3.

is it typical to only be able to get 20-25 songs per CD--i thought they could be compressed to play more per CD.

I do want to play the CD in my car stereo so perhaps some other formats that would compress more songs onto less space is not playable on regular stereos. please advise. thanks.

You answered your own question. The CD limits you to 700mb or 80min. 1.4 hrs would be 1 hr 40 min, or 100 min.

i think i have a partial answer which is i was burning in the audio cd format-so i am trying it in mp3 format and will see if my car stereo can read that format.

however i hit another glitch--when i tried to burn the list--it did burn all but one song--because it said it was not in mp3 format--i checked and the song is in itunes in the aiff format. can i change that format to mp3? if so, how...

Highlight the song, control click and select convert song to MP3. If the command says "Convert Song To ACC", then you will have to go to your preferences, Advanced, Importing, and switch from importing with ACC to importing with MP3.

I have an issue. I keep getting the error message that my songs will not fit on 1 cd. I have used cd-rs & cd-rws same mb (700) & min (80). I have decreased the amounts to 8 songs (6 min avg) and still getting the same error message. I've tried doing this thru iTunes. I'm still learning this OS but this is very frustrating.

What do I need to do?

I hae the ame problem. Did you ever fix this? I have a lot less mb and minutes to burn on to a 80min. 7000mb c.d. and I get a message saying the same. C.d. file too big for 1 c.d.
So now what?

You know what? I think I figured it out. I created a playlist and stuck the songs I wanted to burn in it and pressed burn. And it worked!!!
Try it. It should work.

Yes that seems str8 forward and should work everytime. AiFF files are the format from the audio CD. You can fit many more MP3 files on a CD if your audi player will play mp3 CD's. You can fit many more mp3's if you can live with a lower quality mp3. I find 192kb is as low as I like to go. The 128's sound lousy.
