Can't drag and drop file to external hard drive

I have a MacBook Air that I recently upgraded to High Sierra. Since I've done this I keep getting signed out of websites on my browser and I can't drag and drop files to my external hard drive. Before I upgraded I had no problem doing this. How do I fix this?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities kmp1813,

I see that you're having an issue with dragging and dropping files to your external hard drive and being signed out of websites after updating the software on your MacBook Air. I'd be happy to provide you with some information that can help with these issues.

First let's have you start your Mac in safe mode and test to see if the issue remains.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
If after testing in safe mode the issue remains, then the next step you can try is to test on another user account.
How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
Once you've tested these steps if the issue still remains, reply back with the answers to the following questions.
1. Do you get any error messages?
2. Does this happen when you try to drag and drop to another folder?
3. When you're being signed out of websites, are you opening a private browser? Is this happening with all websites or just certain ones?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a great day!

I tried everything you suggested but they didn't work. I did not get any error messages at all. When I try to drag and drop other files it doesn't work. I don't get signed out of the web sites all of the time I sign in to my computer but about 3 times a week. This happens with any websites that require me to sign in (eg. Facebook, Tumblr etc.)
