I figured it was an iTunes 6 versus 7 issue. Unfortunately, iTunes 7 still will not install properly on my system (whenever I install it and then run the program, everytime I reopen it, it resets all my default settings and acts as though it has never been opened... despite numerous calls and e-mails to Apple, they have been unwilling to help at all).

I reported this problem to Apple technical support and the reponse was that I must upgrade to iTunes7. Several weeks ago, I upgraded to iTunes7 and had nothing but grief - it slowed my system to a grind and messed up my library indexes. I wiped it clean and re-installed iTunes6. So am I supposed to spend another weekend trying to get iTunes7 to work, just so I can give Apple some more money in the store?

I had exactly the same problem and it was not an iTunes 7 vs 6 problem. It was and iTunes 6.0.4 vs 6.0.5 problem. I reinstalled 6.0.4 and nothing changed. I install 6.0.5 and everything is now working in the store. Apple support recommeneded the reinstall of 6, I figured out that the lasted version of 6 (6.0.5) was needed to fix the problem. Good luck.

Hi All -

We do know about this problem. And, we're working very hard on fixing it.

As many of you have noted, the fastest way to get around this problem is to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes.

While we always want you to upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, we understand that some of you can't, or don't want to. For those of you, we hope to have a fix quite shortly.

Thank you for your patience. And, thank you to everyone for raising this issue on the discussion boards.

I have had this problem in the last several days as well. When I click, nothing happens. I don't want to upgrade to 7 because last time I upgraded, it froze me out of my music and I had to download nearly every song from my computer into itunes again...especially those I purchaced from iTunes. I'll wait until this gets cleared up or just change a new system. Add just one more problem to the long list of iTunes/ipod issues. Very frustrating.

I had upgraded to iTunes 7.x when it first came out; it created nothing but problems for me.

I am a frequent shopper at iTunes, but I will not jump through hoops simply to be allowed to spend money at Apple.

This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen ... Apple is killing a popular (and large) source of revenue by dragging their heels in correcting this problem.

The issues with not upgrading are undoubtably intentional andintended to make sure users upgrade. But, I agree, that sort of manipulation will only push customers away. I'm already stuck with the ipod mini which was discontinued. Now, I can't get any of the new components like Nike+ipod, etc. which don't work with the mimi. I was considering buying a Apple laptop, but will probably buy a PC again at half the cost of an Apple with half the likely issues, especially after the latest round of issues that I'm having. I kind of miss my old CDs and stero anyway.

Hi All -

We believe the problem preventing some customers running iTunes 6.0.4 and below from accessing the iTunes Store is now resolved.

Please quit iTunes and relaunch the application. Then, try the iTunes Store home page. If the problem persists, just write back and let me know what version you're running.

Thank you again for being so patient with us while we worked on this issue.

I also started experiencing this problem about a week ago. I am running iTunes 6.0.4 and prefer it to recent upgrades because the newer versions slow everything down.
I have downloaded the latest version of DirectX and the iTunes store still does not allow me to click on objects no matter how mant times I start, close and reopen the software. This is going to adversely affect your bottom line if I cannot by music from you. I will simply go else where!
