Exporting Instruments Volume

Hi there,

I'm new to Garageband and my question is when I'm exporting a song with a piano and violin I want the violin volume to be lower than the pianos. I know you can change that using the sound bar but when I export, it automatically changes both instruments back to the same middle level, even though I want the paino to be the main sound with the violin in the background on low, anyway to make that happen? thanks.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.5)

Hello Chaga51,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that when exporting a song with different instruments the volume level stays the same for both even though you set each to a different volume. Check and see if Auto Normalize is enabled in the Garage Band Preferences. If so, disable it and then export your project.

GarageBand for Mac: Advanced preferences

Auto Normalize: Export projects at full loudness checkbox: When selected (default), GarageBand automatically exports projects at the optimum loudness—that is, the highest volume level at which no distortion occurs. This doesn’t affect the volume level when you play the project in GarageBand—only when you export the project.

Best Regards.
