Issue with Apple Pay and QR code scanners

Recently, I was trying to use my boarding pass, basically a QR code on my iPhone7 and every time I tried to check in, the phone defaulted to Apple Pay. There was no way to get around this. I also discovered that the Apple Pay is activated when around almost any near field reader, e.g. contactless cards for payment etc.

Dear Karghnar,

In an emergency, I guess that work work, but it seems like a poor solution (sorry) for the long term since I fly regularly and also use Apple Pay on a fairly daily basis (which is great, normally).

This seems like a bug that can be fixed. e.g. the Apple Watch requires a double press of the button to enable Apply pay and hence would not be similarly confused.

Cheers and thanks for the suggestion.

Hello,

Apple Pay works through NFC (Near Field Communication). And indeed triggers when near a field reader.

You could temporarily disable Apple Pay, and Apple Pay Cash if you're having this issue.

  • Apple Pay (Credit&Debit): Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > card name in the Cards section > Remove Card
  • Apple Pay (Cash): Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Pay Cash > turn off

Hope this helped,

kind regards,

K

Hello,

I don't have Apple Pay available in my country, therefor I did some research for you. This is just a bad design in software. In the future they will flatten it out for sure.

My first thoughts were that the QR code is being displayed within an app with a bug that "triggers" Apple Pay. After doing a bit of browsing I confirmed this is not the case.

I cannot help you at this time unfortunately, and I read more frustrated people about this flaw.

I hope on the near future it will be fixed.

Have a nice day

Kind regards,

K
