XML file converter for Microsoft Word for Mac

I have received an XML file from someone that I would like to convert to read with Microsoft Word for Mac (version 16.10).

Is an app available for it?

I am using a 13" Retina MacBook Pro (Late 2013) with 16 GB RAM and MacOS High Sierra.

Thank you.

Hmm, you're right. I just tried this with Word 2016 on my Mac and had the same issue as you. Obviously something has changed, but since I normally do not use Word for edit XML files, I wasn't keeping up so I apologize for providing you with an erroneous set of instructions.

As a work-around, I tested this procedure and it worked:

  1. Open the XML file in the TextEdit app.
  2. Use <command><A> to select everything in the file, and then, use <command><C> to copy it.
  3. Open Microsoft Word and create a new blank document.
  4. Click on Edit in the file menu, and then, click on Paste Special.
  5. If available, choose the "HTML Format" option and click on it. This should paste the XML over to the blank document in its original form. Note: In my case, Paste Special only recognized the XML as "Unformatted Text."
  6. Click on OK to paste the text to the Word document.
  7. Save the document in whatever format you prefer.

Dear Tesserax.

I tried your new suggestion and unfortunately, that did not work either.

But, I want to thank you for the effort to help me. It appears that the XML file I received is encoded in some way that the textual content is like gibberish. Since I know the sender, I will ask them what did they intend to send and to re-send in a different format if they are able.

I may not need an XML converter in that instance but I am still wondering if there is something available that is capable of this conversion under the right circumstances.

Thank you again for your kind effort to help me in this regards.

Yes there are a number of XML "formats," even though XML files are nothing more than simple text files that should be "machine" readable with any text editor, you may have a version that cannot be.

Sorry, I couldn't help. I know that there are numerous articles on the Internet that offer solutions for XML to Word conversion so you may have better luck that way or, as you originally posted, someone here may have already tried some of these and can offer a recommendation.
