I installed High Sierra today on my MacBook Pro which has its SSD split into two volumes, Boot and Data.
Boot was of course made into APFS when I installed HS, but I am now wondering if I ought to convert Data to APFS as well?
The notebook is shared on my home network and sometimes accessed from my old El Capitan-run Mac Pro 3,1.

So it's there a risk having the boot volume as APFS?
I'm not sure how you logically jump to that conclusion.

Thank you. If that's the reason then I should have nothing to fear by converting the Data volume (which of course is backed up too).
Well it works well enough for me. There isn't much to maintain and it gives me the freedom to reinstall if I fell like it. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "using the disk space as needed" - I've split the SSD in half so there's ample space for the OS.
