Web addresses not converting to hyperlinks

Since I switched to High Sierra a few weeks ago, when I'm typing an email and insert a web address, it doesn't automatically change to a hyperlink, which it used to do. Safari is my default web browser and always has been. How do I fix this? Thanks!

Hello alicesf,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are having an issue with web addresses not converting to hyperlinks when adding them to an email. When you have an outgoing email window open in the Mail app, go to Edit Menu > Substitutions > Smart Links and make sure that is checked. It should then convert the URL to a hyperlink when entered.

Best regards.
