Pretending to be apple support

My computer froze and told me to call a number. I did and they said they were from apple and kept talking to me about the problem of someone that got in to my bank accounts etc. They wanted me to write a check for almost $700 and told them to get lost.

What problem do I face now? Do they have any insight to my accounts. I changed my apple password right away.

If you did not allow them screen or other access to your Mac, you should be fine. If you did, you will need to assume that they would be able to have gotten to any info that is stored there including financial, etc. In that case, I would call my banks, etc., report possible fraud and get new cards. I'd also change every password for every online site.

Hi,

More than likely spam and / or scam.

Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

If you received or acted on a likely phishing message:

If you received a suspicious email, please forward it to reportphishing@apple.com. If you're on a Mac, select the email and choose Forward As Attachment from the Message menu.

If you think you might have entered personal information like a password or credit card info on a scam website, immediately change your Apple ID password.

I have changed all password and hope they don't go to them (the phishing group) and also changed my passwords to banks, credit cards etc. I will keep a daily look out for all my accounts. I can't believe I fell for this. They're getting really good out there when they can freeze your computer and make you call them. I should've just turned my computer off but I did believe it came from Apple.
