Disabled microphone -iPhone 7

The microphone on my iPhone 7 appears disabled...the Speaker button is greyed out, as is the voice memo recorder button, and I can’t hear or be heard on any phone calls. The phone has been updated to iOS 11.4. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

" A Signature Design Fault " Weak Audio IC and Logic board connection in iPhone 7/7+

Weak soldering is typical defect of Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+ design.

In addition of that, slim skinny design of iPhone 7/7+ makes its micro soldering more fragile and iconnection breaks with small jerk in regular usage without any major accidents.

This weak micro soldering of Audio IC on Logic board resulted in hundreds of iPhone 7 stopped working mic.

You can find lots of cases, just google "iPhone 7 mic issue" or "Audio IC repair iPhone 7"

With the aging of iPhone (above year and half) weak connection between IC and logic board gets disconnected that lands these kind of problems.

Problems are Speaker button grey-out, slow boot, around 5-6 minutes to boot and iPhone works with Bluetooth device.

For live example check this video, this is typical example of defect and repair in this video.

iPhone 7 / Plus Audio IC U3101 Repair stuck on Apple Logo Slow Boot No Sound 338S00105 - YouTube

Just reballing of Audio IC solves this problem.

Now days micro soldering repair shops getting lots of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+ these kind of cases.

This is iPhone 7/7+ signature design failure, which apple never accepted.

See this video

As people having this kind of problem and consulted to Apple genius bar for solution. And surprisingly, Genius could not detect actual problem but land with conclusion that Dock connector is broken.

So need to swap the iphone 7 that costs 319$ + tax.

Actually broken C12 connection of Audio IC on Logic board lands with this issue but when Genius runs diagnosis of iPhone that gives result like "Could not detect Dock connector".

But actually dock connector is working perfectly fine as it charges the iPhone and also communicate with iTunes using lightning cable. So their diagnosis process is not capable or apple want to hide this defect with false results.

Actually Apple is not a customer friendly company anymore.

So better is, Do not to wait for solution or free repair campaign from apple.

Just go to repair shop who repairs with micro soldering and get your iPhone fixed in 30 mins.

ebay also have many mail repair service available.

And last thing Think twice thrice before purchasing costly iPhone.......

I have the same problem with the speaker option greyed out. The only audio solution for phone calls and listening to music is a Bluetooth device.

This cannot be a hardware problem since the speaker does work for "non-core" apps like YouTube and Netflix. It must be some kind of a software or firmware problem with the base apps that come with the phone.

I did all the repair suggestions from Apple Genius all the way to a full wipe and factory reset. I upgraded to IOS 11.4.1 and the problem has persisted. Paying $400 to have this fixed is ridiculous. I am out of ideas.

Its Hardware defect.

Just Google Audio IC Issue iPhone 7.

I had same problem. I visited Apple store. they asked 319 + tax to swap my iPhone 7 for Refurbished iPhone 7.

That is like waste of more money to cover mistake. So I vent to Local repair store who does micro-soldering. and repair done below 70 and works perfectly fine with repair warranty.

Better deal than Apple can offer.

Did your speaker work for non-phone apps before this repair? I can play Netflix, Youtube, Messenger, etc. through the speaker. This would imply to me that the speaker is physically connected just fine. It is only the phone and music app where I have this problem. Another observation is that the music app does not work with headphones but does work in my dock which is a physical connection through the lightening jack. Weird.

Yes speaker works perfectly fine. and Also mic works fine perfectly.

Its common problem with Audio IC or its connection to Logic board. Results in Speaker phone icon Grey-out and also record button grey-out in Voice memo. Also you can try one more thing. Try phone call with Bluetooth headset and it will work perfectly fine. Headsets will not work with lightning connection. some times iphone will take 3-5 mins (Slow) to boot.

Check my above reply on 20th July in this discussion. watch first videos in that reply that will describe you how to identify problem.

I hope you will get what you need.

Glad to find this thread. I have the same problem, not just with one iPhone, 3 of 5 iPhone in the family have this!

- speaker grey out when making or receive call

- cannot hear other party

- microphone does not work either, with phone or face time.

- can only make or receive call through bluebooth!

First my son's iPhone 7 had this in July. Took to apple support and they tested it and say yeah it's their problem and

replced the phone.

Then last month, same thing happed to my iPhone 7 and my other son's iPhone 7 plus. took to apple support,

they see the issue but said that they covered it for a while now they think it's not their problem and we are out of luck!

the only way is we pay to have them fixed. How could not be a systematic issue when 3 of the 5 phone have the exact failure and all happen close to each other?

All five phone were bought together through T-Mobile 2 years ago as a family plan. So must be a problem batch.

I am so angry with apple. Anybody know how to pursue this? expose somewhere? where? my local TV has

a consumer show and I will give them a call and see if they could help. I am ******! #!#!
