mercedes me

Hello,

I am having a very weird behaviour with Mercedes' proprietary app called "mercedes me". It is very good because it allows to send addresses straight from my iPhone to the car's GPS. It has unfortunately stopped working since September 2017 after I upgraded to iOS 11 for the first time and still is exhibiting the same behaviour on iOS 11.4. The app was working just fine on my Iphone 7 and stopped working on the very same phone after the iOS 11 upgrade. It does exactly the same thing with my IPhone X since this January so it clearly does not appear to be a device issue.

What is even stranger is that installing the app on the IPhone 7 of my colleague (so with the same corporate controls over the phone etc) works just fine!

The problem is that there is some kind of screen that constantly keeps coming back over the actual app interface. This screen (with the Mercedes logo etc so not from elsewhere in the phone) reads "connection could not be established - please try again later". I have spent almost hours with Mercedes's support and they have really ran out of ideas as to where the problem could come from and suggested that it may be an iOS issue.

The problem is visible here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqSPaBWkNms&feature=youtu.be

Any idea what might be wrong?

Thanks,

iPhone X, iOS 11.4, null

Resetting network settings on the phone will reset all network issues, which could be something blocking the connection. Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. That will not delete any content, however it will clear wi-fi passwords.

The thought with Keychain is that there might be an error in a credential. Reaching at straws there, but considering nothing else was working, it was worth a thought.

There is always the nuclear option, restore the iPhone to factory, don't use a backup and set up as new. Then install your Mercedes me app on its own and test. The problem with that is time, and then having to get all of your content back manually, since it may indicate there is a problem with your backup.

You mentioned earlier about corporate controls on your device, and that of a colleague. While you indicate they are the same, I wonder if those can be reset for your device, since you are indicating a problem on your device that does not exist on your colleagues. Those are the only other two thoughts I would have. Sorry if those don't work.

That could explain that as well for the version. However, the app does not connect to iTunes. Once downloaded, it would connect directly to Mercedes, so I'm guessing that the issue has to do with the ability of your app to connect from your device, since you indicate that your credentials work with another device. I suggest that you do as Lawrence says, and after deleting, restart the phone. If that does not do it, I would recommend resetting your network settings, as there could be an issue there. Are you using Keychain for your passwords?

It seems to somehow be connected to the account (Mercedes me or iTunes with a probability for the latter, as my Mercedes me credentials worked just fine in my colleague’s iPhone also on iOS 11.4.

In response to your question I have the app version 2.9.3 (updated two weeks ago). I am in Europe, which might explain the discrepancy with your version?

Hi,

Thanks for the very quick response. I have tried reinstalling the app tens of times, including before and after a complete phone restart but to no avail.

The behaviour seen on the video happens even when nowhere near the car. It shows the problem just after I have entered login and password then this screen keeps coming on top even before I can configure the app. But in answer to your question it connects to the car via phone (4G).

What version of the Mercedes me app are you using? The app was just updated the other day, and I have been using this app since I got it on an iPhone X, currently with iOS 11.4. The app was updated on June 15 to version 2.2.1.

I have no troubles connecting, however connection issues are generally on the MB side. I just tried mine again and was able to login and connect right away. I did see connection issues when I first installed the app, and that seemed to be a combination of the account and the app, and Mercedes released an update.
