Just to clarify things.
iTunes the Application is free, it has no subscription, and no cost.
If you subscribed to Apple Music for the free trial, then songs downloaded from there would not have a price, and would not be charged. To get songs from the subscription service you need to use the "For You" and "Browse" sections in the Music App on iOS or the same sections in the iTunes application on a computer.
If you used the iTunes Store App on iOS or the Store section in iTunes on a computer, then you are outside of the subscription service, and choosing to outright buy the songs which in turn means they are charged to you.
Songs downloaded through the subscription service will stop playing and be removed if the subscription is ever cancelled or expires.
Songs bought outright do not depend on the status of the subscription can continue to played indefinitely.

A free trial to Apple Music allows you to add tracks to your iCloud Music library, and stream or download them for offline use. It doesn't prevent you purchasing music that you know you want to keep. If you clicked on a price to download something, and then confirmed the purchase, then that is what you have done. In principle all completed sales are considered final however you can use the http://reportaproblem.apple.com/ pages to request a refund for something purchased in error.

Yup! I've only been able to request 6 out of the 60 songs for a refund. They are pending, however the other 54 says "Not eligible for a refund" after I have submitted the request. I'm not sure if they only allow a maximum to be refunded?
Thanks for your help.
You will need to contact iTunes Billing directly and see if they can do anything.

Thank you. My Partner used my iTunes account and thought he was downloading free songs during the free 3 month trial. I only saw the invoices the next morning which is almost $400!
Ouch. 😮 Throw yourself on the mercy of iTunes Support.

The computer says no. I'm not surprised. I think you'll have to get into a dialog with a human being to stand any chance of a full refund. Even then it is by no means certain.
