iMovie Layered Transitions

As you can see, I have two pictures layered on each other. The problem is that iMovie only seems to allow me to put a "fade to black" transition on the lower image. The upper image does not seem to allow a transition, so it just blinks into existance before the lower picture has even put its shoes on. Is there any way to get the transition to work for both images so that they fade in and out at the same time?

Hi,

Is the upper clip being used as a cutaway? If so, you will not be able to see the clip below unless you adjust the opacity of the upper clip.

In any event, put your cursor on the upper clip and you will see fade handles on each side that you can slide back and forth. They will adjust in tandem or you can hold down the option key and move each handle individually.

Or you can adjust the fade with the fade slider that appears when you select cutaway from the overlay options.

Well, I'll be darned. You know, I wouldn't have noticed those teeny blue life savers if you hadn't pointed them out to me. Thanks for that! I only need to use iMovie about once every three years and so many updates pass in that time, I feel like I'm re-learning everything from scratch. Thanks for that info! This makes the new picture layering function very handy.
