after updating my iCloud password and ID, and signing out on my Macbook, I cannot sign in again?

I updated my apple ID and password, as I was worried about this being hacked. I signed out of iCloud on my macbook. When trying to sign in again using the new data, I get a 'you cannot sign in at this time' window?

And iCloud sign in

on the macbook defaults to my old apple ID?

Have you tried signing out and then restarting the computer?
