Why does my Apple Music only play on airplane mode now?

I went on a week long trip out of the country and got Apple Music so I cloud download it all and stay off my cellular data. I got back from my trip and when I went to turn my data back on my music cut out. My music works fine... but only if I’m on airplane mode. Every time I tried to play a song it simply wouldn't. Even with both airplane mode and WiFi turned on my music still won’t play. For some reason it only works when I’m off everything altogether. I’m honestly so confused as to whyy Apple Music isn’t working and I’ve tried everything I can think of.

Hi lindsaypaige20,

Thanks for following up after trying those steps. If the behavior is still happening, we have some additional troubleshooting steps to try before removing your iCloud Music Library. Let's make sure the iOS is up-to-date on your iPhone following the steps here:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

After that, sign out of Apple Music with your Apple ID. You can do that by going to Settings, scroll down, and tap iTunes & App Store. Then tap Apple ID: [your name] > Sign Out. This will remove any music that is synced to your iPhone using iCloud Music Library. Once you tap Sign In and sign back in with your Apple ID used for Apple Music, go to Settings > Music and turn iCloud Music Library on to sync your music to the iPhone again.

If your Apple Music still only plays while in Airplane mode, the next step would be to isolate possible software causes with a recovery mode update. It's a good idea to make a backup of your data first:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

While the following resource is for help if you can't update or restore your iPhone, it provides steps to update the iOS while in recovery mode. This will attempt to install a fresh copy of the iOS software do your device without erasing any data:

Hello lindsaypaige20,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are unable to stream Apple Music using Wi-Fi or Cellular Data. It's important that you're able to listen to and enjoy your music when you want. You've come to the right place for help.

Let's start by checking the settings for the Music app. From Settings > Music > Cellular Data, is Cellular Data and Streaming turned on? If not, go ahead and turn those both on then see if you are able to stream music again. You may also want to go to Settings > Cellular and confirm that Music has been turned on under Cellular Data as well.

If you're still unable to stream music, the following support article provides some additional troubleshooting steps to try: Get help with iCloud Music Library - Apple Support

Let us know what happens from here.

Take care!

Hi so I went into my settings and did everything you said aand it didn’t do anything. When I go to play a song it starts for like a half a second and then just stops playing altogether. Even if the song is downloaded it won’t play. I tried deleting the app and redownloading it but I haven’t tried wiping my library entirely, which I would prefer not to do since I have quite a bit of music saved already, but I feel like maybe that could really help.
