iPhone photos downloaded to Mac

Two problems.

1. Some of the photographs are being cut so that the left half of the picture shows on MacPro Photo.

2. Some photos are not downloaded. These include *.HEIC, *.MP4, *.JPG, *.PNG. They all have IMG_9999 identification number. Most of the iPhone photographs are either from iPhone, iPhone selfies or screenshots. Most others are others' iPhone or Samsung sent to me and downloaded to the iPhone photos. I have been unable to identify which photographs are not being downloaded to the Mac.

a) why are these not downloaded?

b) how to identify on the phone the IMG code number?

I have restarted both the macpro and the iPhone

Any advice?

iPhone 7, iOS 8

Which system is running on your MacPro? Does it support HEIC images? (See: Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices - Apple Support)

Random results on import when importing by USB might be caused by iCloud Photo Library in combination with "Optimize Storage". The update to iOS 11 may have enabled iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone without you noticing it. With iCloud Photo Library enabled you will get random results when importing from the iPhone.

Photos will remove original images from your iPhone, and keep them only in iCloud, if you are running out of storage on the iPhone. Photos that you recently used will stay, while others get removed. When you then try to download photos from the iPhone, the optimized photos will be missing. You will get random results. That is why I suspect that iCloud Photo Library may have become enabled.

Check the Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Photos on your iPhone.

Check the Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Photos on your iPhone.

I have My Photo Stream checked. iCloud Photo Library and Sharing are unchecked - too many photos for the free service.

Is that on the Mac or on the iPhone, or both? For importing from the iPhone it only matters, if iCloud Photo Library has been enabled on the iPhone, the preferences on the Mac do not matter. If you did not yet check the iPhone Settings, look at Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Photos &Camera. It could have become enabled without you noticing it.

How are you downloading the photos to the Mac? Are you using iCloud Photo Library? My Photo Stream? A USB connection?

Photos on the iPhone cannot display the filenames. You could try a third-party application like ViewExif or Metapho. You can purchase these helpers from the App Store on your iPhone. To see the exif data of a photo in Photos, use the Share menu to open them in these Helper apps.

Sorry for the late reply.

So recent photos are imported without iCloud Photo Library.

System is macOS High Sierra 10.13.5

Not sure how to check if system supports, or not, HEIC images. Review of internet seems it may not. But where did these come from? But again even *.MP4, *.JPG, *.PNG are not downloaded.

Thanks
