Apparently there were some Chumhum (sp?) issues, too. I had removed the MacKeeper files. But Chumhum installed itself as my "home" page on Safari, and it would not allow me to reset anything else. Apple Support walked me through opening my Safari browser, clicking history, clicking clear history, clicking clear all history. Then on Safari tool bar clicking on Develop, click on Empty Caches. They had me open Safari Preferences, click Privacy, click Manage Website Data, then delete the Chumhum website from the computer. Hope this is understandable.

When mackeeper is downloaded in the download folder it will be a .dmg file , until you double click on it , it won't install in the applications and also the files of mackeeper won't install in the Mac .

The general method of removing any malware is to search the folders in system library and user library .

Fortunately there are no mackeeper files in your Mac and the Mac is clean .
