2017 MBP Screen Flickering after opening lid

I have a 2017 Macbook Pro with touch bar ID.

On occasion, in varying locations, when I open the lid, the screen will begin to flicker between the existing correct screen and a black screen. On occasion, it will solve itself, other times it will just go black, which requires a cycle of the lid. (Close & open it again)

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes... that is exactly what mine is doing but I don't use firefox, so that is not the issue here.

Looks like I may have to take it in to a mac store as I think it is still under warranty.

I had a similar problem on my old 2010 MBP and Apple admitted the defect and repaired the problem for free. Hopefully, they will do the same thing here as it certainly seems to be a common problem.

Thanks for the video!

Do a clean Erase and Install of macOS to assure this is not software. Then take it back so the hardware problem can be repaired - Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple.

Install El Capitan or Later from Scratch

If possible backup your files.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the CommandandRkeys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
  2. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
  3. When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
  4. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  5. Set the Format type to APFS (SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  6. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
  7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  8. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.

This will install the version of OS X you had installed.
