Airplay Speaker Not Visable

Hi - I have a Beolit 12 speaker. I just moved it to another room in the house and it is not visable to iTunes or as a Bonjour device. The speaker confirms it has connected to the network, and I’ve scanned the network with the Fing app. This shows the speaker is on the network and it is also providing UPNP services, but no Bonjour services which I assume is the problem. Any thoughts?

When things like this go wrong.. the first thing is to reverse what you changed and see if it works again.

Put your speaker back where it was .. and see if it is visible again to iTunes as airplay device. If so it suggests some complexity in the network you haven't told us about.

Apple don't use upnp so that is of no help. And is not needed anyway on internal LAN.

It can also appear in the network because it is joined to your main modem router.. but as a non bonjour router it does not register bonjour or allow bonjour packets through.

Tell us the whole network layout.. with actual models numbers of all the routers.

In addition to Bonjour, AirPlay uses the IPv6 to "find" an AirPlay-enabled device. In addition to LaPastenague's comments, I suggest that you check, at least, the following two things:

  1. Verify that IPv6 Link-local only (minimum) is enabled on both your wireless router and on the devices you will be streaming from to the Beolit speaker.
  2. Temporarily disable any software firewall that you would be running on the device(s) that is performing as the AirPlay "server." AirPlay consists of a number of protocols to communicate. A firewall, running on the AIrPlay server, could potentially block some or all of these protocols.
