how to delete original file in photos?

i use photos to as a tool to view pictures i had taken. Instead of using photos library, i manually saved the pictures using year and monthly folder basis.

When reviewing the pictures, sometimes there are pictures that i want to delete, both in photos and my original files.

I found out that when we deleted picture in photos, the original file will still there. Perhaps it is because the original files are not in photos library?

Anyway, the question: is there a way to automatically delete both? In adobe lightroom, there are options to "delete from disk" and "remove".

Is there such a thing in photos?

Many thanks

iMac, iOS 11.4

In Photos you have to remove the referenced files manually. Use the command "File > Show referenced file in Finder" before you delete the photo from the Photos library.

right - Photos does not delete anything not in its database so the originals in referenced phots are not touched - when you use referenced photos you are accepting the responsibility for managing teh originals photos - and this is one (of many) reasons that referenced photos are not recommended - :Disadvantages of a Referenced Library in Photos

Photos is not a photo viewer but is a total photo management solution - you probably are just using the wrong program for what you want

It is not - Photos is a consumer program and both of the programs you used to user are professional programs - they do not have the same capabilities

If you have and understand LR I'd suggest you keep using it - Photos capability pale compared to LR as expected for a free consumer program compared to an expensive professional program
