how to used iPhone 5 earphones with iPhone 7plus

when using old earphones with lightning adapter, the phone screen says"Does not support" and sound reverts to phone speakers. anyway to use?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 11.2.5

Try to borrow one from you friends and test a couple of earphones, or visit your most convenient Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider. It could be a hardware failure to your lightning port, but we can't diagnose these issues remotely.

Have you tried to connect a different earphones model to your iP7+? (just to see if the cable adapter isn't broken).

Can you try to connect your old earphones to a different iPhone (borrowing it from your friends)?

I don't see any other way to test your equipments.

I do not have another iPhone. I plugged a pair of over the ear earphones and they work for the same 20 seconds before I get the prior quoted message. I tried a different adapter and the same thing happens.
