Apple iTunes playlists under For You don't open

Hi,

I am unable to open any playlist under Recommendations. Since yesterday I find that clicking on any playlist like Favourites Mix or Chill Mix etc under the For You > Recommendations menu option fails to open the playlist window. Can anyone help, please?

Further info:

- I have done a system repair/verify process just incase there was something related to permissions

- I have signed out and signed back in to iTunes

- I have not added any new application either in the last several months

- iTunes version is 12.7.5.9

- Playlists under other tabs like Browse also do not open

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Hi shelbob1,

I also run Yosemite 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.8 on my iMac. Though the workaround right-click > Show in Apple Music does list the tracks in a playlist now, clicking on the artist within the playlist window still does not work.

Further, clicking on the Artist name in an album tracklist does not work either. So if you want to go to the Artist page the workaround is to search for the artist in All Apple Music and right-click on the resulting match and then click on Show in Apple Music. That will display the albums under the artist you searched for.

These issues may be because you and I are not on the latest OS X version for whatever reasons. Whether, Apple chooses to fix this I cannot say. People on El Capitan seem to report that everythings OK.

Same situation here. I get Item Not Available The item you've requested is not currently available in Apple Music in Japan. (My locale)

Strangely, just hitting the play button in the playlists does work. Also, on my iPhone I can open the playlists with no issues. This problem is on my iMac only.

I am assuming it is a server-side issue of some sort.

Same problem on my Mac – click a playlist on the Browse or For you page, and the artwork downloads but no song list. If I click an album instead of a playlist, I get no artwork and just the rotating circle. However if, instead of clicking the album or playlist on the Browse or For you page, I hover over the art and click the play arrow, the music plays. And it is listed in the "up next" dropdown menu. Clicking here will play the song.

So, iTunes Music is getting some of the information. Just not displaying it. Also, my Macbook Pro, running the same software, is just fine. Both have had all updates loaded. I even changed the DNS server. No luck. iOS is fine. Also tried different user. No change. Rebooted. No change.

Frustrating.

Same here in Mexico, for two days now, only on my Mac, not a problem on iOS devices. "Item not available" error for all playlists of my Apple Music "For You" and "Browse" tabs. "Browse" is more broken, can't access any tab in there.

Trying to fixing it, I've done the next:

-Restart iTunes and Mac.

-Reinstalled iTunes.

-Sign out and sign in back.

-Re-authorise my Mac.

Still nothing. Apple services status show everything is OK, but clearly it's not.

Frustrating.

Thanks for the suggestion but changing DNS servers didn't change anything for me, nor did resetting the DNS cache or rebooting my router.

Additionally, I have now confirmed that this problem also occurs in iTunes on a Lenovo X1 Carbon notebook running Windows 10 so it is not Mac only for me.

The playlists continue to load with no problems on my iPhone though.

This is extremely annoying.

OK, I have found a workaround for this problem, NOT a fix but it should help all those suffering from this deal with it until Apple finally gets around to properly fixing it:

Instead of left-clicking on the playlists in For You, right-click and then choose Show in Apple Music from the contextual menu that appears. That works for me. 🙂

This is very strange, farhiz, because I am not experiencing the issues that you and rbgayle are with the artwork and track names and never have. I only have the problem of the "Item not available in Japan" when I try to left-click to open the playlist. Just hitting the play button in the playlist works as mentioned and now by right-clicking and choosing Show in Apple Music the playlists properly open in the Browse tab and all tracks and artwork show normally for me.

I think Apple has a bunch of ongoing issues. I just noticed something else. Occasionally I will get two separate iTunes listings in the menu bar and need to relaunch to fix it.

Right-ciicking a playlist allows me to see "Show in Apple Music". But when I do, I get what I see if I just click – the artwork for the playlist and text under it appears but no track listings. So no workaround for me.

And "Up Next" is not repopulated with the tracks. If I copy the link under "Share" and put it in Safari, I get a web page with all the tracks (and they are clickable and play from within Safari, although off of the actual album the song comes from) but when I click "Listen in Apple Music", I end up with the same page without tracks. So still not a workaround for me.

Clicking on Albums, either left or right, does not bring up anything about "Show in Music". But I can again "Share" and "Copy Link" to open it in Safari and play the tracks. But only from within Safari. Trying to "Listen in Apple Music" simply gets me the circle of doom that never opens anything.

So for me, the only workaround that is not too onerous is to right-click the artwork for either a play list or an album in Apple Music and select "Play Next". This populates the "Up next" Icon to the right of the Track Info in the center at the top of the window. I can then select the track I want to listen to, as well as add them to my library, a playlist or buy it in the iTunes store (click the "..." to the left of the track name). If I like the whole playlist or album, I can again right-click the artwork and chose "Add to Library".

Not an optimal experience but it works for me.

I tried changing DNS also. No change. What is weird is that my laptop, running the same OS and iTunes versions, works just fine.My desktop is the wonky one that worked just fine last week. I checked "Security and Privacy" and iTunes is allowed incoming connections. So I don't think it is the firewall. My desktop is getting Internet access via hardwired Ethernet while the laptop is wireless, but I don't see how that would be a problem.

Something new happened. Still not working but when I click on an album's artwork, instead of the revolving disk of doom, I get this:

An Error Occurred

Try again

[OK]

So maybe they are working on something. Nice to get an error message. Of course, clicking the button "OK" just takes me back to the top page. Sometimes. Sometimes it does nothing.😕😠
