apple TV volume not working with audio extractor

Hi everybody,

I just installed a new apple TV 4k. I am using an HDMI audio extractor to extract audio, which I then feed into the mixer of my pa-system (home cinema is as well my rehearsal room).

Unfortunately, I cannot control the volume via apple TV remote.

I am aware that I don't have a standard audio setup and neither the audio extractor nor my pa-mixer understands HDMI-CEC.

But I thought it should be possible to tell apple TV not to control the audio device but instead to control the audio volume itself. I tried the apple TV settings, but none worked for me.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Is it really not possible?

Anything is possible, if programmed to do so. But for now, there are no settings to make that happen inside the Apple TV.

Control your TV or receiver with your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote - Apple Support

Program your remote for volume

If volume control doesn’t work automatically, you can manually program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote:

On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Volume Control.
Select Learn New Device.
Follow the onscreen steps to program your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote to control volume for your television or receiver.

You can remote control another device, but not adjust the volume inside the HDMI stream.

Thanks urquhart1244, but unfortunately, in my setting, adjusting the volume inside the HDMI stream would be the only solution. HDMI audio extractors do not support HDMI-CEC and my loudspeakers (active studio monitors) are not controllable by remote (nor is my mixer).

Is it really not possible for apple TV to control the volume inside the HDMI stream (it does manipulate the audio stream for the option "reduce loud sounds")?!

So what are my options? When using one of these small Bluetooth receivers instead of the audio extractor, will I run into the same problem? Is it possible that there are apple TV apps that control the audio stream (I havn‘t found any yet)?
