You are sure it's an iTunes gift card and not an Apple Store gift card (i.e. a card that can only be used in Apple stores and their online store) ? You can't check the balance on iTunes cards, you can only do that on Apple Store cards, as you say that you've checked its balance it implies you don't have an iTunes card.
