iPad Pro 2017 (11.4) No charging symbol while charging

Hi,

I bought a new iPad Pro with iOS 11.4 installed, last week. It worked fine when the salesman showed it but after I got it home, when I try to charge it while shutdown, the charging battery symbol does not appear.

As soon as I connect the charger with the iPad shutdown, it turns on. It charges in either of the cases though.

Another point, the charger gets hot after about 10 minutes of being plugged-in.

I'd like to know if this indeed is a bug/silly feature in iOS 11.4 or should I need to troubleshoot. (Reset-->Apple Care)

Please suggest.

Thanks

Thanks Phil.

"Unlike the iPhone, the iPad does not show the large charging indicator on the lock screen unless it is completely out of charge and the charge is currently not enough for it to turn on."

This is what I wanted. I'm not sure though as to why there are, so many iPad images in google with the green battery symbol, probably for representation.

It's a good idea for sure and is probably not in the iPhone for "convenience". You are essentially draining the battery by showing me that!

In the meanwhile, I reset and restored my iPad, there are a few new options/settings now. I think Apple might have shipped some iPads with a pre-release version of 11.4.

If the iPad is completely turned off, and you plug it in to charge, it will turn itself on. This is by design. There is nothing wrong with this.

If while charging you turn it off, it will stay off. However there's no point in doing this. You can let the iPad be just in sleep mode, by pressing and quickly released the power button. There is no requirement to turn if off.

The charging indicator is a small lightning bolt over the battery icon when the iPad is plugged in. Unlike the iPhone, the iPad does not show the large charging indicator on the lock screen unless it is completely out of charge and the charge is currently not enough for it to turn on.

You can go to Settings->Battery, and turn on the Battery Percentage display if you want a more descriptive battery icon.

The charger brick can get warm while charging as current is passing through it. Unless it gets really hot, like very uncomfortable to the touch hot, there should be nothing to worry about.
