Does anyone know if I can connect a Western Digital external 4tb HDD to my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) by getting a Micro-B (Male) (HDD side) to Firewire 800 (male) cable or am I restricted to ONLY using the USB ports?
I have been having intermittent issues with the MacBook not mounting the HDD through the USB connector.

Does the WD external enclosure have a firewire port? No issues with your 2010 firewire.
A conversion cable from firewire800 to micro USB— never heard of it but if it exist I suspect you pay a penalty in speed.
The WD could slip into an external enclosure with more port options?

currently the WD only has micro-b port
I suspect that the easiest way maybe to put the HDD into a multi port enclosure. Many thanks for the suggestion.
