Best (Hopefully Free) Way To Convert .pict to .jpeg Files

I have some old scanned photos in .pict format.

What is the best / easiest / cheapest / ... way to convert these photos to .jpeg?

I'm using Photos 3.0 and macOS 10.13.4 on a Mac Mini.

I see this question asked in ancient history but wonder if anyone has current experience.

Thanks

Open Applications/Automator. Choose 'Application' and click 'Choose'. Click 'Photos' in the left column then from the next column drag 'Convert into JPG'. Use the slider to select the required quality. Save and name. The Application will appear wherever you chose to save it. Drag a photo or photos onto the application's icon.

Caveat: this works in 10.9.5 (Mavericks) - I can't guarantee it will work in 10.13 since Apple seems determined to deprecate PICTs (for example Preview used to be able to do this but doesn't in Mavericks).

Should it not work, or if you would like to have a more powerful program to hand, the best image conversion program is Graphic Converter by Thorsten Lemke - I've been using this for more years than I care to think about. It will convert just about any image format to any other image format as well as having a large number of options. It costs $39.99.

If you look at the description at bottom left it doesn't mention PICTs - I did warn you 😟 - some of us have large numbers of PICTS which was Apple's standard image format at one time, but...

You could look at these: I have no idea whether they are any good or whether they will condescend to convert PICTs, but at least they are free and as they are in the App Store they should be safe.

Google throws up some others - one at least is from Softonic and I should avoid that: that and similar sites have been known to add malware. If an app isn't in the App Store get it from the developer's site only.

Think about Graphic Converter - if you are going to do any serious amount of image work it's the best app available. (I have no connection with Herr Lemke, I have just used the program for years).
