Can't boot into hardware test--error code?

I've got two Macs I'm repairing, a 2010 Pro 13" and 2011 Pro 17" Both suddenly have problems that appear to be hardware. I can't boot into Hardware Test and get error 3403D. Anyone know what that means?

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

I agree with babowa.

You should not expect that Internet Recovery will fetch the diagnostic for you. Yours is covered by the older Apple Hardware Test.

The tool you use depends on your Mac model and macOS version. To see the model and version, choose Apple menu > About This Mac.

  • If your Mac is from 2013 or later, use Apple Diagnostics, which is built into your Mac.
  • If your Mac is from 2012 or earlier and has OS X v10.8.4 or later, use Apple Hardware Test, which is built into your Mac.
  • If your Mac is from 2012 or earlier and has OS X v10.8.3 or earlier, use the system software disc or USB flash drive that came with your Mac.

[If you are running a later version of MacOS, that version is only important if you are using MacOS to fetch the diagnostic over the Internet.]
