If you go to an apple store they will give you a small recycling fee, probably $30 or less for your ipod. You could use that towards your phone. Or you could sell your iPod and use that money towards the phone.
WHat you will get for the touch is negligible towards the cost of a phone
If you do sell it make sure you wipe it correctly for the next wonder.
